Little Eco-Warriors in Action at Innocent Hearts; Learnt the Art of Waste Segregation & Compost Making
Under the flagship of DISHA: An Initiative run and managed by Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical Trust, students of Innocent Hearts School actively participated in a series of meaningful environmental activities aimed at nurturing responsible, eco-conscious citizens.
As part of this initiative, a special session titled “Let’s Sort the Waste!” was conducted for Grades I and II, where young learners were introduced to the basics of waste segregation. Through engaging visuals and hands-on practice, students learned how to differentiate between wet waste (like fruit peels and leftover food) and dry waste (such as paper, wrappers, and plastic). This activity helped sharpen their cognitive abilities, enhance teamwork skills, and develop empathy towards the environment in a fun and interactive way. Simultaneously, students of Grades III to V participated in a step-by-step workshop on “How to Prepare Organic Compost from Kitchen Waste”. The activity demonstrated how everyday kitchen waste can be turned into valuable organic fertilizer using a simple bucket or drum. Children learned the science behind composting — from adding wet and dry waste in the right proportion, maintaining moisture, to regular stirring for decomposition. Within 30–45 days, this compost will be used in school gardens and potted plants, showing students the full cycle of waste-to-resource. Both activities beautifully emphasized the principles of: Waste management, Recycling and natural cycles, Environmental responsibility and sustainable habits. Dr Palak Gupta Bowry Director ,CSR Innocent Hearts mentioned that the initiative left a lasting impression on the young minds, with beaming smiles and enthusiastic participation reflecting the success of these enriching learning experiences. It was a perfect blend of education, exploration, and action, truly empowering little eco-warriors to make a big difference.
