In a vibrant celebration of World Earth Day, Innocent Hearts School, under its Disha initiative run and managed by Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical Trust, embraced the theme “Make Everyday Earth Day” (aligned with SDG-13: Climate Action). The Eco Club across all five campuses – Green Model Town, Loharan, Kapurthala Road, Noorpur Road, and Cantt.-Jandiala Road – actively engaged students in a series of eco-conscious activities designed to instill a sense of environmental responsibility.
Plant a Seed – A Lesson in Growth and Responsibility
The youngest learners, Grade I students, kicked off the celebrations with a heartwarming 'Plant a Seed' activity. They planted seeds in pots, learning about the fascinating process of plant growth and the importance of nurturing nature. The activity highlighted not only the significance of plants but also the responsibilities we hold towards the environment.
Litter Less – Advocating Cleanliness and Waste Management
In tandem, Grade I students participated in the 'Litter Less' activity, promoting cleanliness and proper waste disposal. The aim was to foster good waste management habits from an early age, an essential step in environmental sustainability.
Trash to Treasure – Unleashing Creativity from Waste
The Grade II students displayed their creativity through the 'Trash to Treasure' activity. Transforming waste materials into useful items, students learned the valuable lesson of recycling while strengthening their teamwork skills.
Recycling and Sustainability – Making Paper Bags
Grades III–IV took part in a Trash to Treasure/Paper Bag Making activity. This allowed them to dive deeper into the concepts of recycling, upcycling, and the importance of sustainability. It was an excellent hands-on approach to demonstrate how waste materials can be turned into new, functional products.
Seed Sowing – Understanding the Importance of Plants
In the Seed Sowing Activity, Grade V students developed an understanding of the significance of planting and taking responsibility for nature. This activity highlighted how even small acts of planting can have a long-term impact on the environment.
Sustainable Pledge – Committing to Eco-Friendly Habits
Students from Grades VI–X took a collective Sustainable Pledge, vowing to adopt eco-friendly practices such as reducing waste, saving water, and protecting nature. This pledge was a reminder that every small step counts in the larger journey towards sustainability.
Eco-Friendly Craft Challenge – Innovation through Recycling
In another creative effort, Grades VI and VII participated in the Eco-Friendly Craft Challenge. By utilizing recyclable materials, students crafted innovative items that showcased their resourcefulness and commitment to environmental conservation.
Clean-Up Drive – Promoting Cleanliness in the Community
In an effort to keep their surroundings clean, Grade VIII students organized a Clean-up Drive on the school campus and surrounding areas. This activity, part of the FIT India Movement, aimed to spread awareness about the importance of cleanliness, not just on Earth Day but throughout the year.
Leafy Legacy – Plantation Drive for Climate Action
The celebrations culminated with Grades IX–X spearheading a “Leafy Legacy” Plantation Drive. Students planted saplings and promoted the significance of climate action and biodiversity, leaving a lasting legacy for future generations to cherish.
Through these meaningful activities, Innocent Hearts School reaffirmed its commitment to fostering environmentally conscious citizens. As Dr. Palak Gupta Bowry, Director of CSR, stated, these initiatives not only help instill values of environmental conservation but also encourage students to take action in creating a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
By engaging students of all age groups in hands-on environmental activities, Innocent Hearts School has once again demonstrated its dedication to SDG-13: Climate Action, empowering students to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
