World No Tobacco Day with Awareness Campaign

Under DISHA, an initiative run and managed by the Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical Trust Innocent Hearts observed World Anti Tobacco Day. All five branches of Innocent Hearts School—Green Model Town, Loharan, Cantt.-Jandiala Road, Noorpur Road, and Kapurthala Road—along with Innocent Hearts College of Education and Innocent Hearts Group of Institutions, Loharan, observed World No Tobacco Day with great enthusiasm and commitment.

The observance was centred around the theme, “Say No to Drugs and Say Yes to Life.” A variety of awareness activities were organized to educate students about the harmful effects of tobacco and substance abuse. The Sports and Wellness Club presented a thought-provoking street play highlighting the dangers of tobacco consumption. Poster-making, slogan-writing, and article-writing activities were also conducted. Grade mentors actively engaged students in discussions to create awareness about this pressing social issue.

At Innocent Hearts College of Education, the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) organized a special programme under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative based on the theme, “Tobacco is Killing Us and Our Planet.” A poster-making competition carrying the message “Commit to Quit” encouraged student-teachers to express their views on the adverse effects of tobacco. Through their creative posters, participants emphasized that smoking and chewing tobacco pose serious threats to both physical and mental health. RRC In-charge Ms. Tarunjyoti Kaur urged student-teachers to remain vigilant about their social surroundings and avoid consuming anything without proper knowledge of its contents. The volunteers of the club also presented informative PowerPoint presentations highlighting alarming facts, including that tobacco claims more than eight million lives annually and severely damages the environment through its cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and waste.  The programme concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony in which students and staff pledged to educate society about the dangers of tobacco and work collectively towards building a healthier, tobacco-free future.
